Conference by Jean-Paul Prates, ex-CEO of Petrobras and IFP School graduate

On October 7, Jean-Paul Prates, ex-CEO of Petrobras and a graduate of IFP School's former Energy Management and Policy program (class of 1992), gave a conference at IFP School on the challenges of the energy transition for national oil companies.

Mr. Prates recalled the role of national oil companies in driving the energy transition, highlighting their expertise and influence in moving towards more sustainable energy solutions while guaranteeing the energy security of states.

He also spoke of Brazil's unique position on the world stage, leveraging its vast energy resources and technological expertise to evolve in both the fossil fuel and renewable energy sectors.

Accompanied by Saïd Nachet, Director of International Relations at IFP Energies nouvelles, Mr. Prates met and exchanged views with the students of the class of 2025, and in particular with the Brazilian students currently attending the School.

Mr. Prates, 55, holds a master's degree in Energy Planning from the University of Pennsylvania. He is a former senator for the Workers' Party. He was appointed CEO of Petrobras in December 2022.
