A team of five IFP School students has qualified for the second stage of the 2024 Laurie Dake Challenge.
Organized by the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), the competition consists in assessing and developing the Volve oil field in the North Sea according to a zero-carbon emissions strategy, based on data provided by Equinor.
The qualified team was made up of students from the Petroleum Geosciences (PGS) and Reservoir Geoscience and Engineering (RGE) programs: Nada Elmaasry (Egypt), Julie Hatcherian (France), Sergio Ornellas (Brazil), Raizza Peres Carrillo (Portugal) and Carla Piche (France). Jérôme Laval, Manager of the PGS/RGE programs, coached the team.
For this first stage, the students first evaluated limited seismic and well data in order to propose a development plan. To this end, they interpreted the data, estimated reserve volumes and assessed economic viability.
"In the second stage, we will have to refine our plan with more data, propose a complete development plan, estimate production and CO2 emissions, and take environmental impacts into account," explains Carla Piche.
IFP School students are often on the Laurie Dake Challenge podium. In 2023, the School came third in the final.
Congratulations to our students for this fine qualification and good luck!
