Five students from IFP School's Petroleum Geosciences and Reservoir Geoscience and Engineering programs will take part in the Laurie Dake Challenge final, which will take place on June 5, 2022 in Madrid.

Nicolas Diaz (Argentina), Gideon Kibirige (Uganda), Orlane Loukassoye (Gabon), Daniel Sejas (Bolivia) and Marwa Shmeis (Lebanon) passed the first stage of the competition by proposing a development plan for a field based on data provided by Repsol and the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE).

The students were supervised by Jérôme Laval and Arnaud Torres, lecturers at IFP School's Georesources and Energy Center.

"We were able to put into practice some of the concepts we learned in class and apply them to real industry data," explains Nicolas Diaz, the team captain.

"We put a lot of energy and effort into the project, and thanks to that, we were able to move on to the next stage of the challenge. We couldn't be happier!" he exclaims.

Each year, the Laurie Dake Challenge pits 10 EAGE student chapters around the world against each other. The competition was created to promote the interdisciplinary integration of geosciences and engineering within higher education institutions.

Congratulations to our talented students for their efforts in this challenge and good luck for the final!
