The energy flows map has been published. This new edition, based on 2023 figures gathered by Energy Intelligence, OPEC, Eurostat and the International Energy Agency, once again highlights the intensity of international oil and natural gas trade.
The 2023 map shows the continuing fall in oil and natural gas imports from Russia to Europe, a consequence of geopolitical tensions between the two regions. However, India now plays a dominant role as an intermediary between the two regions, importing crude oil and petroleum products from Russia and then sending them back to Europe.
Flows of liquefied natural gas are steadily increasing, with the USA becoming a major global exporter, compensating for the decline in flows between Russia and Europe.
For over 25 years, IFP School and IFP Training have been working together to produce the Energy Flow Map, highlighting inter-regional energy flows and the evolution of continental energy mixes.
