Pierre Duret heads the IFP School's Powertrains and Sustainable Mobility Center since 2003. In addition to his management duties, he teaches Two-Stroke Engines and Marine Outboard Engines as well as New Combustion Processes. He is also the coordinator of the "Automotive Powertrain Market and Intercultural Management" teaching unit.
He has written over 60 international publications (6 Awards), has filed around 30 patents and is co-author of several books. From 2005 to 2019, he served as President of the Expert Community on the "Powertrain Group" of the Société des Ingénieurs de l'Automobile (French Society of Automobile Engineers). Since 2007, he is an editorial consultant for the "Techniques de l'Ingénieur" publication and is part of the SAE Technical Committee of the Small Powertrains and Energy Systems Technology Conference, as well as FISITA's Education Committee.
Pierre Duret spent most of his career at IFP Energies nouvelles, first as Research Engineer, then in 1987, as Project Manager for R&D on new generation two-stroke engines.
In 1996, he became Assistant Director of the R&D Engines-Energy division. In this capacity, he was in charge of international partnerships. He created the European Cluster "SPACE Combustion" on new combustion processes for gasoline engines and diesel engines and coordinated several european industrial projects with PSA, Ford, Daimler, Renault, Opel and Lotus.
From 2001 to 2006, he was a member of the Board of Directors of three French SME in the automobile industry. In 2002, he was appointed Deputy Director of IFP Energies nouvelles' Powertrain Engineering Technology Business Unit. He was one of the founders of the European Network of Excellence, "ECO-Engines" and ran its Training Section.
Since 2018, he organizes and chairs at IFP School a biennial International Conference "Direct Injection Two-Stroke Engines" which brings together the world's leading experts on the subject.
Pierre Duret graduated from the École Centrale de Paris in 1981.
