On July 2003 Thierry Lacome joined IFP School's Powertrains and Sustainable Mobility Center. Since 2012, he coordinates the Energy and Products program and participates in the life of the center (responsible for teaching unit, responsible for apprenticeship, recruiting students,...).

Thierry Lacome spent most of his career at IFP Energies nouvelles. Between 1988 and 2003, he worked in R&D in the Department of Chemistry and Applied Physical Chemistry, in the field of organic synthesis of additives for lubricants (antiwear, extreme pressure, overbased additives..) and of fuels (detergent additives for gasoline, synthetic bases for diesel), then of biomass chemistry (biodiesel production process by heterogeneous catalysis Esterfip). His research has resulted in 19 patents and two publications.

From 2009 to 2011, he joined the Department of Fuels, Lubricants and Emissions of the Technical Energy Application Division of IFP Energies nouvelles as Head of the Laboratory of Automobile Pollution, which is dedicated to the analysis of unregulated pollutants; in parallel, he was also in charge of studies in the field of stability of biofuels, in collaboration with industrial partners.

Thierry Lacome is a graduate of the École nationale supérieure de chimie de Rennes.
