Alain Auriault joined IFP School in 1999 to teach reservoir engineering. In parallel, he supervised training programs in France and abroad. In 2001, he was appointed the reservoir engineering expert for the Georesources and Energy Center. He later became Director of Studies, a position he occupied from august 2009 to september 2020. He is currently Special Advisor to the Dean.

After one year of military service as a teacher in a Naval Academy, Alain joined in September 1980 the Exploration-Production division of ExxonMobil’s French subsidiary (ESSO-REP). From 1980 to 1997, he held various positions in that company: Field Production Engineer in Parentis (Landes), Project Engineer for the construction of surface facilities, Planning and Production Analyst in charge of economic evaluation and upstream reporting. For twelve years, he was a Field Engineer working on field development, field monitoring and management, simulation studies and consolidation of field data, particularly on reserves.

In 1998, he joined ELF Exploration Production as a Senior Reservoir Engineer working on a deep offshore field in Angola during its initial development phase.

Alain Auriault is a civil mining engineer from the École nationale supérieure des Mines de Saint-Étienne (class of 1979).
