IFP School invites you to get 2024 off to a flying start with its selection of MOOCs on hydrogen, the key molecule in the decarbonization of industry!

MOOC "Hydrogen for Mobility

MOOC Hydrogen for Mobility d'IFP School
What is it?

Following the success of its first two editions, IFP School is relaunching its MOOC "Hydrogen for mobility". This free online course, available for a limited period, covers hydrogen technologies aimed at decarbonizing heavy mobility.

Designed by Maria Thirouard, Supervisor of the Powertrain Engineering program, lecturers from IFP School's Powertrains and Sustainable Mobility Center, and five researchers from IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) in collaboration with Marie de la Villèsbrunne, Course Designer at Lab e·nov™, it offers a three-sequence course with a total of 17 video clips in English with French subtitles and 3 assessment games.

After exploring the hydrogen sector in the context of the energy transition, you will discover how the hydrogen internal combustion engine works, followed by fuel cell vehicles.

"This course was originally designed for our students to ensure that our training was in line with industry's need for hydrogen skills," explains Maria Thirouard. "Our programs are constantly reviewed to ensure that they reflect the changes in the automotive sector. Today, our students follow this course as part of their training," she adds.

Who is it for?

This MOOC is aimed at Master's level students (4 and/or 5 years of higher education), professionals in the transport sector and anyone interested in hydrogen technologies for mobility.

When will it take place?

From 15 January to 3 March 2024.

Good to know:

This MOOC represents 6 to 10 hours of learning.

A webinar will be held on 15 February 2024 to enable participants to meet IFPEN researchers and the IFP School team.

Reward:

Learners with more than 60% of correct answers will be awarded a badge upon successful completion.

MOOC “Hydrogen Production“

MOOC Hydrogen Production d'IFP School

What is it?

Developed by a team from IFP School's Processes for Energy and Chemicals Center (Olivier Bernaert, Denis Bossanne, Laetitia Salessy), IFP Training instructors and IFPEN researchers in association with Lab e·nov™, the "Hydrogen Production" MOOC focuses on the transition from high-carbon to low-carbon hydrogen production.

Comprising four modules, it begins with an overview of current and future hydrogen production and demand. It then covers the three main current and future production methods for the molecule:

  • Steam Methane Reformer (SMR), coupled with CO2 capture;
  • solid gasification
  • electrolysis of water using renewable electricity.

"Hydrogen is a key energy vector for meeting the challenges of the energy transition. This MOOC is part of IFP School's strategy to enrich its existing training programs with hydrogen-related courses and to contribute to the development of the industry by preparing future engineers in the sector," explains Laetitia Salessy, Director of the Processes for Energy and Chemicals Center and Hydrogen Coordinator at the School.

"This MOOC focuses on industrial solutions for hydrogen production," adds Denis Bossanne, lecturer at the Processes for Energy and Chemicals Center.

This free, time-limited MOOC combines videos in English with French subtitles and 4 assessment games.

At the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  1.  Define the different "colors of hydrogen" and establish the associated technologies and production units;
  2.  Compare the different production schemes and technologies in terms of energy consumed (/tH2), CO2 produced (/tH2) and price;
  3.  Draw the process diagram and its main equipment for all the production processes examined in the MOOC;
  4. List the operating parameters of each of the units and explain their influence on H2 production (quantitatively and qualitatively).

As with the "Hydrogen for Mobility" MOOC, this course has been specially developed for IFP School students. Currently, students in the Energy and Processes program who have chosen the "Gas, Hydrogen and Electricity" option can take the "Hydrogen Production" MOOC as an elective course.

When will it take place?

This 9-week training course will run from 4 March to 30 April 2024.

Who is it for?

This MOOC is aimed at Master's level students (4 and/or 5 years of higher education), process industry professionals and anyone interested in hydrogen production technologies.

Good to know:

This MOOC represents 6 to 10 hours of learning.

Participants in this MOOC will have the opportunity to discuss with IFP Training instructors, IFPEN researchers and the IFP School team during a special webinar to be held on 28 March 2024.

Reward:

Participants with more than 60% of correct answers will be awarded a badge upon successful completion.
