Combustion, Electric and Hybrid Powertrains

Open to engineers or master's degree holders with several years of experience in the industry, particularly in the automotive industry, the Advanced-master degree - Mastère Spécialisé in Powertrains - combustion, electric and hybrid - provides a vision of the entire powertrain. Taught in French, in partnership with IFP Training, it offers two alternative options.

'Hybrid and Electric' option

This option is intended to prepare high-level specialists capable of:

  • designing, manufacturing and testing an electrical machine, power electronics, electrical drive control and battery pack, in other words, a complete electrical drive system
  • dimensioning and comparing the main hybrid vehicle architectures on the market through modelling and simulation
  • understanding the impacts of hybridization on the design of internal combustion engines.

'Combustion and Hybrid' option

This option is intended to prepare high-level specialists capable of:

  • designing and developing new technologies applied to alternative automotive engines and their electrification/hybridization, in order to make them less energy-intensive while still complying with legislative requirements in terms of pollution
  • dialoguing effectively with specialists in other disciplines, by providing engine knowledge to electronics and automation engineers, and conversely, knowledge in automation and control equipment to engine manufacturers.

Planning

  • 12 months of teaching, at the rate of about one week per month (360 hours in the form of courses, tutorials, practical work and visits)
  • 4 months of internship in the partner company, which will lead to a thesis and a defence.

The Advanced-master degree - Mastère Spécialisé in Powertrains - combustion, electric and hybrid is also accessible as part of a "Recognition of Prior Learning" project (in French "Validation des acquis de l'expérience - VAE). Further details are available on the website http://www.vae.gouv.fr/ or by contacting the Master's Program Manager.
